Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation Approves Landmark 33% Women's Reservation in Future Recruitments

In a significant policy shift aimed at enhancing gender representation, the standing committee of the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has approved a proposal to implement 33% reservation for women in all future recruitments within the civic body. This decision marks a progressive step toward increasing women's participation in municipal services and administration.

Comprehensive Recruitment Policy Overhaul

Standing committee chairman Devang Dani confirmed that the reservation will apply to all upcoming AMC recruitments. "In future recruitments by the AMC, a provision for 33% reservation for women will be made," Dani stated. "The standing committee approved this initiative to ensure women are prioritized in upcoming recruitment advertisements and selection processes." This move is expected to create more equitable employment opportunities and foster a more inclusive workforce within the municipal corporation.

Major Development Projects Worth Rs 216 Crore Approved

Alongside the recruitment policy, the committee cleared a series of development works estimated at Rs 216 crore across Ahmedabad. The approved projects include:

  • Construction of Urban Health Centres (UHC) and Sub-Health Centres (SHC) in Hathijan to improve healthcare accessibility.
  • Infrastructure upgrades, including replacement of bearings under bridges to enhance structural safety.
  • Improvements to water supply and drainage systems to address urban utility challenges.
  • Works related to four bridges to bolster transportation infrastructure.

Traffic Management Initiatives and Public Facilities

Addressing persistent traffic concerns, AMC officials revealed that the civic body had previously sought feedback from traffic police to alleviate congestion at key junctions. Based on recommendations, traffic police suggested opening approximately 85 left turns across the city. Of these, 55 left turns have already been opened to facilitate smoother vehicular movement and reduce traffic bottlenecks.

In other developments, the committee announced that the Danapith fire station and its parking facility will be opened to the public by the end of February. Additionally, the new school board building is scheduled for inauguration on Friday, February 13, by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. On the same day, nine new AMTS buses will be flagged off, further enhancing the city's public transportation network.

This comprehensive approval of both social policy and infrastructure projects underscores AMC's commitment to holistic urban development and gender inclusivity in Ahmedabad.
