Andhra Pradesh Minister Inaugurates Major Road Development Projects in Vijayawada
In a significant move to enhance urban infrastructure, Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MAUD) Minister Ponguru Narayana laid the foundation stone on Tuesday for the development of three masterplan roads in the peripheral areas of Vijayawada. The projects are estimated to cost Rs 105 crore and aim to modernize the city's transportation network.
Details of the Road Projects
The foundation stone was laid for the widening of key roads, including Ballemvari Street from Poranki-Nidamanuru Road, Auto Nagar-Murali Nagar Road, and Ballemvari Street to Nidamanuru Junction. The ceremony was attended by prominent local representatives, including Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni), Machilipatnam MP Vallabhaneni Bala Showry, and legislators Bode Prasad (Penamaluru), Gadde Ram Mohan (Vijayawada East), and Yarlaggada Venkata Rao (Gannavaram).
Government's Vision for Urban Transformation
Speaking at the event, Minister Narayana emphasized the government's commitment to transforming Vijayawada and Tirupati into Greater cities. He stated that a final decision on this upgrade will be made after the completion of the upcoming population census. The road expansion and modernization works are specifically designed to tackle the growing traffic challenges in Vijayawada, ensuring smoother mobility for residents.
Addressing Broader Municipal Issues
Narayana highlighted broader infrastructure concerns, noting that approximately Rs 29,000 crore is required to resolve drainage problems across 123 municipalities in Andhra Pradesh. He criticized the previous government, alleging that it diverted municipal funds and failed to provide the state's share for centrally sponsored schemes, which led to several projects being stalled midway.
The present government is prioritizing the provision of essential amenities such as drinking water, drainage systems, and other basic facilities in municipalities to improve the quality of life for citizens, Narayana asserted, underscoring a shift in focus towards sustainable urban development.
Additional Infrastructure Initiatives
Earlier in the day, the minister inaugurated a newly constructed road in Sanath Nagar under Tadigadapa Municipality, which was built at a cost of Rs 2.75 crore. He also directed officials to immediately release Rs 7 crore for additional road development works within the municipality, reinforcing the government's dedication to enhancing local infrastructure.
These initiatives reflect a comprehensive approach to urban planning, aiming not only to alleviate immediate traffic issues but also to lay the groundwork for long-term growth and improved living standards in Vijayawada and surrounding areas.
