The Andhra Pradesh Police have been conferred the Institutional Performance Award for State Police for excellence in passport verification services, marking the second consecutive year the department has received this national honour. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar presented the award during the Passport Seva Divas-2026 celebrations held at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan in New Delhi from June 17 to 19. Intelligence Superintendent of Police Ramadevi accepted the award on behalf of Director General of Police Harish Kumar Gupta.
Performance Highlights and Verification Numbers
The Union Ministry of External Affairs announced the award after a comprehensive review of state police departments' performance in passport verification across the country. According to officials, the Andhra Pradesh Police completed verification of 6.32 lakh passport applications during the 2025-26 financial year. The state was recognised for ensuring speedy verification, timely processing, and transparent service delivery to passport applicants.
Recognition for Citizen-Centric Services
DGP Harish Kumar Gupta stated that the achievement reflects the government's focus on citizen-centric services and the department's efforts to streamline the verification process. He emphasised that the use of technology, effective monitoring, and coordination among district police units helped reduce delays and improve efficiency. The DGP noted that Andhra Pradesh had also received the same award for its performance in 2024-25, making it the second consecutive year the state police department earned national recognition in this category. He credited the achievement to the collective efforts of police officers and personnel involved in passport verification across the state.
