Badrinath Temple Committee Orders Probe into Donation Theft Allegations
The Badrinath-Kedarnath Temple Committee (BKTC) has ordered an inquiry into allegations of donation theft at the Badrinath Dham, following similar claims that surfaced about the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. BKTC President Hemant Dwivedi confirmed on Saturday that the temple committee has taken the allegations circulating on social media seriously and has ordered the formation of an inquiry committee to investigate the matter.
Allegations Surface on Social Media
The allegations of donation theft at Badrinath Dham emerged on social media platforms, with users claiming that a portion of the offerings made by devotees was being misappropriated. The posts quickly gained traction, prompting the temple committee to act swiftly. Dwivedi stated that the committee is committed to transparency and will ensure a thorough investigation.
Similar Claims at Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir
This development comes just weeks after similar allegations were made regarding the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. In that case, devotees had raised concerns about the handling of donations, leading to an internal review by the temple trust. While no official confirmation of theft has been made in either case, the repeated claims have raised questions about the management of funds at major Hindu temples.
BKTC Assures Devotees of Fair Probe
Dwivedi assured devotees that the inquiry committee would submit its report within a stipulated timeframe. "We have zero tolerance for any wrongdoing. If anyone is found guilty, strict action will be taken," he said. The committee has also urged devotees to report any suspicious activities directly to temple authorities rather than relying on unverified social media posts.
Impact on Temple Trust and Devotees
Badrinath Dham, one of the four Char Dham pilgrimage sites, attracts millions of devotees annually. The temple's donation box, known as the 'hundi', collects substantial amounts of cash and valuables. The allegations have caused concern among pilgrims, many of whom consider their offerings a sacred duty. The temple committee hopes that the inquiry will restore confidence in the management of donations.
Next Steps in the Investigation
The inquiry committee, comprising senior temple officials and external auditors, will review donation collection and accounting procedures. They will also examine CCTV footage and interview staff involved in handling offerings. The committee is expected to complete its investigation within 30 days and make recommendations to prevent future irregularities.
