AIIMS New Delhi Imposes Strict Social Media Policy for Students and Staff
The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, has introduced a comprehensive social media policy that prohibits students, residents, and employees from using the institute's name or logo on social media without prior written approval from the relevant departments. The directive aims to regulate online conduct and protect institutional reputation.
According to the policy, students and their recognized associations, societies, clubs, and organizing committees are barred from posting, sharing, or discussing any patient information, images, or case details on social media platforms, even if the patient's identity is not disclosed. This measure aligns with the Indian Medical Council Regulations, 2002, and the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023.
Prohibited Content and Disciplinary Actions
The policy also prohibits the posting or forwarding of harassing, threatening, or discriminatory content. Students must comply with the University Grants Commission (UGC) regulations on ragging. The guidelines state: "Do not post obscene, defamatory or hate speech content as per applicable laws. Do not engage in plagiarism or academic dishonesty on social media platforms. Do not share examination questions, answer keys or other confidential academic materials."
Violations may lead to disciplinary action as per institutional rules. The policy underscores the importance of maintaining confidentiality and ethical standards in the digital space, especially for medical professionals.
