Delhi Development Authority Inaugurates New 1.3-km Cycle Track at Asita

In a significant move to promote eco-friendly mobility and enhance public engagement with urban green spaces, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) will inaugurate a new 1.3-kilometer cycle track at Asita this Sunday. This initiative underscores the authority's commitment to sustainable urban development and recreational infrastructure.

Strengthening Recreational Facilities at Restored Yamuna Floodplain

The round leisure cycling track was developed under the direction of Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, aiming to further strengthen recreational amenities at the restored Yamuna floodplain site. An official from DDA elaborated on future plans, stating, "In addition to this track, we are actively working on proposed cycle corridors spanning approximately 21 kilometers along the western bank and 30 kilometers along the eastern edge of the river." This ambitious project totals 51 kilometers of dedicated cycling paths, poised to transform riverbank mobility.

Palaash Mahotsav: A Celebration of Ecology and Culture

The inauguration of the cycle track forms an integral part of the Palaash Mahotsav, scheduled to be organized at Asita on February 21 and 22. Officials highlighted that the festival's first phase, held from February 14 to 16 at four prominent locations—Baansera at Birsa Munda Chowk, Ashoka Garden at Ashok Vihar, Lala Hardayal Park at Jasola, and Smriti Van at Narela—received an enthusiastic public response.

The two-day event at Asita, to be attended by the Lieutenant Governor, will feature a variety of engaging activities:

  • Inter-departmental or division competitions
  • Floral displays and thematic installations curated by DDA's horticulture department
  • Cultural performances and food stalls
  • Interactive competitions such as floral jewellery design, rangoli, fashion walk, painting, and photography
  • Pottery workshops, recreational rides, and swings for families

Connecting Citizens with Ecological Revival

Organizing the festival at the restored Yamuna floodplains serves a dual purpose: providing recreational opportunities and connecting citizens with the story of ecological revival and sustainable urban transformation. The authority emphasized, "With pleasant weather, it would be the perfect time for families to come and enjoy their weekends. Tulips were integrated as a prominent feature of the Palaash Festival, expanding Delhi's floral landscape beyond the traditional confines of Lutyens' Delhi."

Open at a nominal ticket price, the event promises a wholesome weekend outing, blending environmental awareness with community engagement. This initiative reflects DDA's broader vision to integrate green mobility solutions with public spaces, fostering a healthier, more connected urban environment in Delhi.
