The Food Safety Department (FSDA) in Mysuru conducted a sweeping inspection of 70 hotels, bars, restaurants, and street food vendors across the city on 25 June 2026. The operation was led by Designated Officer Dr S L Ravindra under the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC).
Inspections and Notices Issued
Officers inspected nine street vendors and issued notices to four of them for non-compliance with food safety standards. Additionally, four bars and one restaurant were inspected, and notices were issued to all five establishments. The inspections targeted hygiene practices, storage conditions, and adherence to the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) regulations.
Details of the Operation
The FSDA team checked for expired ingredients, improper waste disposal, and lack of proper licensing. Dr Ravindra stated, "We are committed to ensuring that food served to the public meets safety standards. Repeated violations will lead to stricter action, including closure." The drive covered areas including Devaraja Market, K R Mohalla, and major thoroughfares.
Impact on Establishments
Notices require the cited establishments to rectify deficiencies within a week or face penalties. The FSDA has warned of surprise re-inspections. This is part of a broader statewide initiative to improve food safety ahead of the monsoon season, when waterborne diseases peak. According to FSDA records, over 200 similar inspections have been conducted in Mysuru district in the past month.
