Ghaziabad Residents Raise Alarm Over Dangerous Road Conditions in Kavi Nagar
Residents of Kavi Nagar in Ghaziabad have voiced serious concerns regarding road safety, pointing to poor visibility and hazardous conditions that endanger both pedestrians and drivers. At the heart of the issue is a double electricity pole situated directly in front of KK 21, which locals argue creates a significant safety hazard.
Pole Installation During Road Widening Project Blamed for Visibility Issues
The pole was installed as part of a road widening initiative, but it now obstructs visibility, leading to unsafe driving scenarios. This concern has been amplified by a recent tragic accident in Noida, where a man lost his life after his vehicle plunged into a deep pit, underscoring the urgent need for infrastructure improvements.
"Pedestrians are forced to walk in the middle of the road, risking their lives, as vehicles struggle to navigate past this pole," explained Rajiv Kumar Agarwal, a resident of the area. "Current estimates indicate that around 500 pedestrians and 1,000 vehicles use this stretch daily, making it a critical point for intervention."
Debris and Dust Worsen Ongoing Road Conditions
The situation has deteriorated further due to persistent road problems. "After the Jal Nigam excavated sections of the road for pipeline installation months ago, debris remains scattered, causing frequent dust clouds from passing vehicles," noted Bhupendra Singh, another local resident. This debris not only hampers visibility but also contributes to environmental and health issues.
Lack of Footpaths and Inaction from Authorities Exacerbate Risks
Agarwal added that the absence of proper footpaths leaves pedestrians particularly vulnerable. "Despite multiple complaints filed with local authorities, no substantial action has been taken to resolve these problems," he lamented. Compounding the issue, traffic congestion at the intersection from Kavi Nagar Ramlila Maidan to Shastri Nagar has increased, creating additional bottlenecks and safety risks.
Residents Call for Immediate Action from Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation
In response, residents have urgently appealed to the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation and the power department to implement necessary measures. Their demands include:
- Relocating the double electricity pole in front of KK 21 to improve visibility and safety.
- Installing surveillance cameras at the Kavi Nagar-Shastri Nagar intersection to enforce road safety regulations and monitor vehicles emitting excessive smoke.
These steps are seen as crucial for preventing accidents and ensuring smoother traffic flow. As of now, a response from officials is still pending, leaving the community in a state of heightened concern over their daily commute and well-being.
