Ghaziabad Seizes 90 Buses in Transport Enforcement Drive

In a one-day enforcement drive on Friday, the Ghaziabad transport department seized 90 buses and issued challans to 120 others, uncovering widespread violations including missing fitness certificates, lapsed permits, and unpaid taxes.

Special Campaign Under Transport Commissioner's Directions

The special campaign was conducted under directions from the transport commissioner, with teams deployed across national and state highways, bus stations, toll plazas, and major intersections in the district.

Divisional Transport Officer (Enforcement) Siyaram Verma said vehicles were checked for valid permits, fitness certificates, and tax compliance. “Several buses were found operating without valid documents, and a number were also found violating provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act,” he said, adding that vehicle owners were imposed fines worth Rs 45.5 lakh.

Passenger Safety at Risk

Verma emphasized that buses operating without valid documents posed a direct risk to passenger safety. “Strict action will continue against vehicles found operating in violation of the law,” he said.

The department said similar drives would be conducted regularly and urged bus owners and operators to ensure all permits, fitness certificates, and documents were kept current. Simultaneous drives were also held in Noida, Hapur, and Bulandshahr.
