Gujarat Budget Focuses on AI Policing, Anti-Drone Tech for Security

Gujarat's 2026-27 Budget Unveils Comprehensive Tech-Driven Security Overhaul

In a strategic move to modernize law enforcement, the Gujarat government has positioned technology at the core of its security framework in the 2026-27 budget. The state is set to implement a series of advanced measures, including artificial intelligence-powered policing and sophisticated anti-drone defense systems, marking a significant shift towards tech-enabled security operations.

Enhanced Anti-Drone Capabilities and Border Security

Responding to recent security challenges, such as the attack on India's borders during Operation Sindoor, the budget includes a dedicated provision for anti-drone technology. A substantial allocation of Rs 20 crore has been earmarked for the procurement of four advanced anti-drone systems. These systems are designed to detect and neutralize unauthorized or rogue drones, with deployment not limited to border districts like Kutch and Banaskantha. Officials confirmed that the anti-drone units will be mobilized across the state to address suspicious activities or illegal drone usage wherever they occur.

AI and Data Integration for Smarter Policing

To bolster intelligence gathering and operational coordination, the budget proposes an investment of Rs 60 crore for establishing a state-of-the-art data fusion center and a Center of Excellence (CoE) for AI in policing. This initiative aims to consolidate and analyze critical police data on a unified platform, facilitating faster intelligence generation, improved situational awareness, and more synchronized responses among various units and districts. The integration of AI is expected to enhance predictive policing and resource allocation.

Focus on Women's Safety and Emergency Response

Women's safety has been highlighted as a key priority in the budget. The government plans to reinforce security measures through the 1091 Women Helpline, dedicated women police stations, and an expanded network of CCTV cameras. Additionally, emergency response capabilities will be significantly expanded with the creation of 3,000 new positions under the DIAL 112 Janrakshak Project. A further allocation of Rs 9 crore has been made to acquire 50 special operational vehicles, which will enhance patrolling in districts with inter-state and international borders, ensuring better mobility, rapid deployment, and sustained presence in vulnerable areas.

This comprehensive approach underscores Gujarat's commitment to leveraging cutting-edge technology for a safer and more secure environment, setting a precedent for other states in India.
