Gujarat Government Completes Major Registration of Ponds in Kutch District

The Gujarat state government announced on Monday a significant achievement in environmental and administrative efforts, with the Kutch district administration successfully bringing 910 ponds from 281 villages onto official revenue records. This initiative is specifically aimed at facilitating their beautification, water conservation, and long-term protection.

Scientific Measurement of Over 5,600 Acres Completed

According to an official government statement, the process involved the scientific land measurement of more than 5,600 acres of land associated with these 910 ponds. This extensive measurement covered ponds across 10 talukas in the Kutch district, effectively paving the way for their formal protection and enhancement through various projects.

The statement elaborated that this landmark initiative was launched approximately three months ago. During this period, the Kutch district administration undertook the critical task of identifying and officially recording numerous ponds and water bodies that were previously unregistered.

Preventing Future Disputes Through Official Documentation

"Before granting official status, a scientific approach to measuring the area of the ponds was adopted to prevent future disputes and ensure smooth implementation of conservation and enhancement projects," the official statement emphasized. This meticulous approach ensures that all measurements are accurate and legally sound, minimizing potential conflicts over land boundaries in the future.

The scientific measurement process was conducted in close association with the office of the District Inspector of Land Records (DILR). Following the completion of these measurements, final orders were issued to officially record the ponds on the revenue records. This official documentation is a crucial step that guarantees no future disputes will arise regarding the measurements or ownership of these vital water bodies.

This comprehensive effort by the Gujarat government and the Kutch district administration represents a proactive move towards sustainable water management and environmental preservation. By formally registering these ponds, the authorities are not only securing their legal status but also enabling structured and funded projects for their conservation, beautification, and protection, which will benefit the local communities and ecosystem in the long term.
