MCG Initiates Contractor Selection for Sector 66 Model Road Development
The Municipal Corporation of Gurgaon (MCG) has officially commenced the process to appoint a private contractor for the development of a model road in Sector 66. This action comes nearly four months after the project received the crucial green light from the finance and contracts committee (F&CC). The initiative represents a significant step forward in the city's urban infrastructure enhancement plans.
Project Details and Specifications
With an estimated cost of Rs 7.4 crore, the ambitious project focuses on transforming a 24-meter-wide revenue road into a modern, efficient thoroughfare. The comprehensive scope of work includes the construction of dedicated footpaths and cycle tracks, alongside the installation of essential storm water drains and sewerage pipelines. According to MCG officials, the road stretches approximately 850 meters in length, with an anticipated completion timeline of around one year and two months.
The redesigned road will feature several advanced amenities, including solar-powered lighting systems, strategically placed rumble strips for enhanced safety, and durable thermoplastic road markings. A critical component of the project involves clearing existing encroachments to improve both safety standards and overall traffic movement efficiency. Officials have emphasized that the laying of storm water and sewerage lines will be prioritized and completed before the main road development work begins.
Broader Model Road Initiative
This specific project in Sector 66 is an integral part of MCG's larger vision to develop 100 kilometers of city roads as model roads, aimed at substantially improving urban mobility across Gurgaon. The civic body has been actively pursuing multiple similar projects throughout the city.
In January, MCG floated tenders for the redevelopment of the stretch connecting South City-2 (A Block) with Nirvana Country, with an estimated cost of Rs 5.1 crore. Additionally, tender processes have been initiated for two more model roads in Sectors 32 and 39. The Sector 32 project involves a 750-meter road running from Rajiv Chowk on NH 8 to Medanta, estimated at Rs 6.7 crore. Meanwhile, the Sector 39 project will cover a 1-kilometer stretch from Medanta to Bakhtawar Chowk, with an expected cost of nearly Rs 7.2 crore, and will include cycle tracks, footpaths, and designated green spaces.
Recent Approvals and Future Focus
During its meeting on November 20, 2025, the F&CC approved several other model road projects across Gurgaon. These approvals included the aforementioned South City-2 Block A to Nirvana Country stretch, a project from Southern Peripheral Road to Bani Square costing Rs 6.1 crore, and a Rs 6.3 crore project from Omaxe Mall to Rosewood City.
MCG officials have stated that these extensive projects collectively reflect the civic body's dedicated focus on upgrading road infrastructure and creating safer, more accessible streets for pedestrians and cyclists. The emphasis on integrated development—combining mobility solutions with environmental and safety features—highlights a modern approach to urban planning aimed at enhancing the quality of life for Gurgaon's residents.
