GVMC Allocates Rs 19 Crore for Visakhapatnam's International Fleet Review Beautification

The Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) is undertaking a significant beautification drive ahead of the International Fleet Review, scheduled to take place in Visakhapatnam next week. The civic body is investing approximately Rs 19 crore in various enhancement projects to ensure the city presents an impeccable facade for the prestigious naval event.

Continuation and Expansion of Previous Initiatives

While a portion of these works represents newly initiated efforts, many are extensions or continuations of projects originally launched for the Investors Summit held in November 2025. This strategic approach allows for efficient resource utilization and builds upon existing infrastructure improvements.

Permanent Infrastructure Improvements Take Priority

GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg emphasized that over 90% of the ongoing works are permanent in nature, designed to provide long-term benefits to the city. These substantial projects include:

  • Comprehensive road development and repairs
  • Footpath construction and renovation
  • Median development and beautification
  • Extensive greenery and landscaping works
  • Enhanced lighting systems throughout the city
  • Drain diversion and coverage projects

Final Stage Preparations and Event-Specific Enhancements

Commissioner Garg confirmed that all 119 distinct work components are currently in their final stages of completion. The remaining efforts focus specifically on event requirements, including:

  • Enhanced sanitation measures for high-traffic areas
  • Additional LED lighting installations for event venues
  • Continuous waste removal along beach roads and coastal areas
  • Full operational readiness of streetlights and solar lighting systems

Comprehensive Departmental Coordination

Multiple municipal departments are working in close coordination to ensure timely project completion. Engineering and horticulture officials are actively engaged in:

  1. Footpath repairs and maintenance
  2. Completion of painting works and road markings
  3. Ensuring center medians remain clean and attractively maintained

Officials from the engineering, town planning, and public health departments are maintaining continuous supervision and coordination to address all related works promptly. This collaborative approach ensures that Visakhapatnam will be fully prepared to host the International Fleet Review with enhanced infrastructure and aesthetic appeal that will benefit residents long after the event concludes.
