Haryana CM Saini announces yoga in school curriculum, mandatory in exams

On the 12th International Yoga Day 2026, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini announced a series of measures during the state-level celebration at Parade Ground in Panchkula to integrate yoga into the state's education system and governance.

Yoga in school curriculum from Class III to IX

Saini declared that yoga education will be introduced as a subject for students from Class III to Class IX starting from the upcoming academic session. This initiative aims to foster physical, mental, and emotional development while instilling healthy habits early in life.

To ensure effective implementation, all Physical Training Instructors (PTIs), D.P.Ed. teachers, Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs), and designated Primary Teachers (PRTs) in the state will receive specialized training in yoga asanas. This will enable students in every school to practice yoga regularly under trained guidance.

Mandatory yoga questions in HSSC and HPSC exams

Saini announced that questions related to yoga will be made a mandatory component of all examinations conducted by the Haryana Staff Selection Commission (HSSC) and the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC). Necessary amendments to the examination policy will be introduced to implement this provision, ensuring that yoga knowledge is tested at the recruitment level.

State-level institute of naturopathy and yoga in Morni

A state-level institute of naturopathy and yoga will be established in Morni, offering undergraduate-level courses in these disciplines. Additionally, yoga will be incorporated as a key component in five Centres of Excellence being set up across various universities in Haryana, strengthening yoga education, training, research, and innovation in higher education.

Departments renamed to include yoga

To institutionalize yoga promotion, Saini announced that the sports departments of all higher education institutions in Haryana will be renamed as “Departments of Sports and Yoga.” Yogasana will also be included as a sports discipline under the state’s sports policy, with necessary amendments to facilitate its implementation.

Integration of Ayurveda and yoga

The CM stated that elements of the Ayurveda curriculum would be integrated into the yoga curriculum to promote a holistic approach to health and wellness. He also announced that appointments to the previously sanctioned vacant posts of AYUSH Yoga Coaches and Yoga Instructors would be made at the earliest.

State song in morning assemblies

Saini further announced that the collective singing of the state song during morning assemblies in all government schools across Haryana would be ensured. This initiative aims to instill a sense of pride in the state, discipline, national consciousness, and cultural values among students.
