Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University (HAU) in Hisar has issued a directive requiring all deans, directors, heads of departments, controlling officers, and branch in-charges to obtain prior approval from university authorities before sharing any university-related content with the media or on social media platforms. The order, aimed at tightening control over the flow of information, warns that violations will invite action under the university's existing service and disciplinary rules.
Official Communication Details
In an official communication issued on Thursday, the HAU Registrar instructed all such officials to route information relating to university activities through the Public Relations Office (PRO). The letter stated that information, press notes, photographs, videos, and other publicity material are not provided to the PRO in a timely manner, which adversely affects proper publicity and dissemination of activities.
The communication further noted that university-related information is at times shared publicly without authorisation, prompting the need for stricter oversight. The university has also barred employees from creating or operating social media platforms associated with the institution without prior permission.
Impact on Information Dissemination
This move is expected to centralize all external communications from HAU, ensuring that only authorized content reaches the public. While the university cites the need for timely and accurate publicity, critics may view the order as a measure to suppress dissent or control narratives. The directive applies to all forms of media, including traditional press and digital platforms, and covers all university-related activities.
According to the communication, the lack of timely submission of materials to the PRO has hindered effective publicity. The new rules aim to streamline the process but also impose strict consequences for non-compliance, reinforcing the university's authority over information sharing.
