HSVP Launches Comprehensive Drainage Project in Panchkula Extension

In a significant move to tackle persistent waterlogging issues, the Haryana Shahari Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) has launched a dedicated drainage and public health maintenance project in the trans-Ghaggar sectors of Panchkula Extension. This initiative aims to enhance sewer connectivity, ensure smoother drainage during routine operations, and prepare the area for the upcoming monsoon season.

Project Details and Scope

The project involves the construction of manholes and road gullies, along with the laying of a 200mm stormwater pipeline. According to HSVP officials, the primary focus of the work will be in Sector 27, but it is designed to support routine public health maintenance across a broader area, including sectors 23 to 28, 31, and 32. This targeted approach is expected to strengthen stormwater management, reduce waterlogging, and improve sewer linkages in these neighborhoods.

Timeline and Cost

With an estimated cost of Rs 1.69 lakh, the project comes with a tight two-month completion deadline from the date of commencement. The tendering process is anticipated to conclude this month, with physical work likely to begin in March. Officials have emphasized that this short timeline indicates the project is a focused maintenance and improvement exercise rather than a large-scale construction endeavor.

Addressing Longstanding Issues

Several parts of Panchkula Extension have faced recurring waterlogging during heavy rains, with roads, markets, and residential areas often inundated due to clogged or damaged gullies. Residents have frequently criticized the lack of pre-monsoon cleaning, highlighting the urgency of such infrastructure upgrades. An HSVP official stated, "The project reflects our focus on strengthening basic urban infrastructure and ensuring that sewerage and drainage systems remain functional through timely maintenance."

Expected Outcomes

Authorities expect the new works to mitigate waterlogging issues ahead of the next monsoon, providing relief to affected communities. By improving drainage and sewer connectivity, the project aims to enhance the overall quality of life in Panchkula Extension, demonstrating HSVP's commitment to proactive urban management and infrastructure resilience.
