Indore Elevated Corridor Project Finalized: Four-Lane Structure with Roundabouts
Indore Elevated Corridor Design Finalized, Construction Timeline Set

Indore's Elevated Corridor Project Clears Major Hurdle with Finalized Design

The prolonged uncertainty surrounding the ambitious elevated corridor project in Indore was decisively resolved on Saturday. This breakthrough came during a high-level review meeting where the technical specifications were conclusively finalized and a clear timeline for the project's commencement was established.

Final Design: Four Lanes and Strategic Roundabouts

In a significant development, the elevated corridor will now be constructed as a four-lane structure. To optimize traffic flow and reduce congestion, the plan includes constructing modern rotaries, or roundabouts, at three critical intersections: Navlakha, Shivaji Vatika, and LIG Square. This decision was made in a meeting chaired by Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.

The initial blueprint proposed landing ramps at Guitar Square, Geeta Bhavan, and Shivaji Vatika. However, following expert recommendations to enhance connectivity, the number of these access arms will be increased. The Public Works Department (PWD) has been directed to conduct a comprehensive feasibility survey within the next ten days to identify suitable additional points for these ramps.

Safety Features and Pending Decisions

The administration is also proactively incorporating safety measures. A dedicated rescue lane will be integrated into the design to ensure unimpeded movement for emergency vehicles, even during periods of heavy traffic.

One element remains under active deliberation: the design for Palasia Square. While a rotary has been proposed for this junction, a final decision is pending. This is due to necessary consultations with Metro Rail officials, as the Indore Metro is planned to run underground through this specific area. Minister Vijayvargiya emphasized that no further meetings would be held regarding the overall corridor design, signaling that the planning phase is complete.

Immediate Construction Timeline and Broader Road Review

With the design locked in, the project is shifting to the execution phase. Construction work on the LIG Square segment has been officially scheduled to begin within the next 15 days, marking a swift transition from planning to action.

During the same pivotal meeting, Minister Vijayvargiya and Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargav conducted a thorough review of progress on 23 major roads outlined in the city's Master Plan. Key arteries discussed included:

  • MR-5 Link Road (connecting TCS to MR-5)
  • Subhash Marg (from Gol Mandir to Rambagh Bridge)
  • AB Road connectivity (GPO Square to Sarwate Bus Stand)
  • The Airport Road to MR-5 link corridor

These crucial roads are being developed under four distinct packages, a strategic move aimed at systematically strengthening Indore's internal transport network and supporting the city's growing infrastructure needs.
