This proactive move is squarely aimed at boosting public participation and engagement in preparation for the upcoming Swachh Survekshan 2026, the central government's annual cleanliness survey. During a recent interactive session held at a prominent private school, IMC Commissioner Kshitij Singhal underscored the critical role of youth in achieving sustainable urban hygiene.
Commissioner Singhal emphasized that a truly clean and green city can only be realized when the younger generation internalizes hygiene as an integral part of their daily lives. To cement this commitment formally, students at the event were administered a solemn cleanliness oath, where they pledged to inspire their families, friends, and peers to adopt eco-friendly practices.
Garima Vidya Vihar School: A Pioneering Model
Highlighting a successful case study, Singhal pointed to Garima Vidya Vihar School as a pioneering institution in this city-wide movement. The school is actively working towards achieving a certified zero waste status. As part of its innovative approach, the institution has appointed dedicated swachhta ambassadors in every classroom. These student ambassadors are tasked with driving awareness, monitoring waste management, and promoting sustainable habits among their fellow students.
During his visit, Commissioner Singhal also conducted a detailed inspection of the school's advanced 3R (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) centre and its state-of-the-art robotic lab. He praised the students for their creative and technological approach to environmental conservation, noting how these facilities serve as practical hubs for learning about waste segregation and resource management.

IMC officials, including Additional Commissioner Prakhar Singh, reinforced the importance of such school-led innovations.
