Foundation Stone Laid for Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Corridor

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar laid the foundation stone for the 48-km long, Rs 2,935 crore Indore-Ujjain Greenfield Corridor on Saturday. The project aims to improve regional connectivity, economic output, and tourism in the Malwa region ahead of Simhastha-2028, according to Yadav.

The dedicated greenfield route bypasses city bottlenecks, allowing transit time between Indore and Ujjain to fall to 30 to 35 minutes. Air travellers from other states will gain direct transit from Indore airport to Ujjain, reducing structural traffic pressures during peak festival seasons.

Land Acquisition and Compensation

The route establishes direct physical access for 20 villages in Indore district and 8 villages in Ujjain district, benefiting an estimated 1.5 million people living in 40 to 50 peripheral settlements. To facilitate development, the state acquired 242.939 hectares of land from 917 affected farmers, distributing more than Rs 816 crore in structured compensation based on registered transactional market rates.

Housing Sanctions and Relocations

The dignitaries also distributed over Rs 2,500 crore in housing sanctions to 42,000 eligible beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), and oversaw the formal relocation (griha-pravesh) of 38,000 families into permanent homes.

CM on Naxalism

On the occasion, the CM said that naxalism has completely been eradicated from Madhya Pradesh’s soil.

Project Details and Infrastructure

The 48.10 km-long high-speed road will be built as an access-controlled, four-lane network under a hybrid annuity model (40:60 allocation) by Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation. The alignment initiates near Indore’s Pitra Parvat region and terminates near Chintaman Ganesh Temple at Ujjain’s Simhastha Bypass. The design incorporates 18 underpasses and 19 junction improvements. Grade-separated intersections will link it directly with Western Ring Road and Ujjain-Badnavar route.
