Jaipur Development Authority Proposes Pedestrian Subway to Alleviate Congestion in Historic Market Area
The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) is actively considering a significant infrastructure project aimed at enhancing urban mobility in the city's bustling core. The proposal involves constructing a pedestrian subway that would connect the Ramniwas Bagh parking area to Ramleela Maidan and Bapu Bazaar. This initiative is designed to streamline pedestrian movement within the densely populated market zone and substantially reduce traffic pressure in the historic walled city.
Commissioner's Inspection and Directives for Feasibility Study
On Thursday, JDA commissioner Siddharth Mahajan conducted a thorough inspection of Ramniwas Bagh and its associated parking facility. During this visit, he issued clear instructions to officials to explore all possible avenues for maximizing the utilization of the existing parking area. More importantly, Mahajan directed the team to examine the technical and logistical feasibility of developing a pedestrian subway from this location to Ramleela Maidan and Bapu Bazaar.
He emphasized the need for a comprehensive and detailed feasibility report to be prepared at the earliest opportunity. Mahajan clarified that any final decision regarding the execution of this subway project would be contingent upon a thorough review of this report, ensuring that all aspects are carefully evaluated before proceeding.
Enhancing Tourist Experience and Additional Infrastructure Focus
In addition to the subway proposal, the commissioner also highlighted the importance of catering to the needs of both local and international tourists who frequent Ramniwas Bagh. Officials were instructed to consider developing additional facilities and attractions in the area to boost its appeal from a tourism perspective. This dual focus aims to not only improve traffic flow but also enrich the visitor experience, making the zone more attractive and functional.
Later in the day, Mahajan extended his inspection to the underpass that connects SMS Hospital with the trauma centre. He instructed officials to expedite the auction process for the remaining shops located within this underpass, ensuring that these commercial spaces are utilized effectively to support urban infrastructure and local economy.
