Kochi: Kadamakudy grama panchayat has demanded immediate intervention to address contamination of drinking water supplied by Kerala Water Authority (KWA) to various islands under the panchayat.
Complaints Across All Wards
Panchayat president M S Antony said widespread complaints have been received over the past week from residents across all 14 wards alleging that mud and other impurities are being mixed with water.
He said the issue was brought to the attention of the executive engineer and assistant executive engineer concerned immediately after complaints were received, but no effective solution has been implemented so far.
Health Concerns for Vulnerable Groups
“Locals have limited alternative sources of potable water and are largely dependent on KWA. Several complaints have been received regarding health issues, including vomiting, diarrhoea and fatigue among children and elderly people, after using contaminated water,” said Antony.
Threat of Protests
The panchayat administration warned that if KWA fails to ensure an immediate remedy, people’s representatives would launch strong protest programmes in front of the office of KWA chief engineer.
