Kaithal DC Launches Clothes Donation Drive for Needy

Kaithal Deputy Commissioner Aparajita has launched a community initiative combining social welfare and environmental sustainability. The drive encourages residents to donate unused clothing, which will be distributed to needy families or recycled into fibre, reducing textile waste and supporting the Swachh Bharat Mission.

Collection Boxes to Be Installed Across City

The district administration will place dedicated collection boxes at various locations across Kaithal. Usable garments will be distributed among underprivileged families, while damaged items will be recycled into fibre. The initiative aims to prevent clothes from being discarded in drains, vacant plots, or public spaces, which often clog drainage systems and mar the city's appearance.

Officials Directed to Identify Suitable Locations

Chairing a meeting at her office on Monday, DC Aparajita directed Municipal Council officials to identify suitable sites for the collection boxes. The administration will also seek support from social and educational institutions, as well as Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs), to raise awareness and encourage public participation.

Environmental and Social Impact

The Deputy Commissioner emphasised that proper disposal and recycling of textile waste would significantly contribute to the Swachh Bharat Mission's objectives. She noted that many households have clothes no longer in use, and discarded garments create environmental and sanitation challenges.

Appeal to Citizens

“Many households have clothes that are no longer in use, while discarded garments also create environmental and sanitation challenges. I urge every citizen to donate their unused clothes in the collection boxes that will be provided by the administration. Usable clothes will reach those in need, while damaged clothes will be recycled. In this way, every citizen can contribute to environmental protection and help keep Kaithal clean,” said DC Aparajita.
