State Government Initiates Training for Law Graduates
The Karnataka government has launched a comprehensive training program for law graduates to help them prepare for judicial services examinations. The initiative, announced by Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister J.C. Madhuswamy, aims to provide free coaching and study materials to eligible candidates across the state.
According to a government statement, the program will be conducted by the Karnataka State Judicial Academy in collaboration with law colleges. It will include mock tests, interview preparation, and access to digital resources. Over 5,000 law graduates are expected to benefit in the first phase, with registration opening next month.
Details of the Training Program
The training will cover key subjects such as constitutional law, criminal procedure, and evidence law. Sessions will be held both online and offline to ensure wider reach. "Our goal is to reduce the financial burden on aspiring judges and create a level playing field," said Minister Madhuswamy.
Eligibility criteria include being a law graduate from a recognized university in Karnataka. Preference will be given to candidates from rural areas and economically weaker sections. The program will run for six months, with weekend classes to accommodate working professionals.
Impact on the Legal Profession
This initiative is expected to boost the number of qualified judicial officers in Karnataka. Currently, the state faces a shortage of judges, with over 3,000 vacancies in subordinate courts. By providing structured training, the government aims to fill these vacancies more effectively.
Law graduates have welcomed the move. "This is a much-needed step. Many cannot afford expensive coaching centers," said Priya Sharma, a recent law graduate from Bengaluru. The program is also seen as a model for other states to follow.
