Lucknow Municipal Corporation Unveils Plan for Civic Land Development
In a strategic initiative to optimize the use of idle municipal property, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) has announced plans to develop Kalyan Mandaps, marriage lawns, and landscaped parks in the Hariharpur and Hasanpur Khewli areas of the city. This move aims to address the issue of vacant civic land while providing essential community amenities and boosting municipal revenue.
Site Inspection and Official Directives
Mayor Sushma Kharkwal, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar and Additional Municipal Commissioner Pankaj Srivastava, recently conducted a comprehensive site inspection of the vacant plots. During the visit, the mayor meticulously reviewed the current status of the land, including ownership records and boundary demarcation, to assess its potential for development.
Key directives were issued to officials to prioritize the safeguarding of all municipal land. Mayor Kharkwal ordered immediate actions, such as demarcating plots, erecting fencing, and constructing boundary walls, to prevent any future encroachment. This proactive approach is part of a broader effort to reclaim and protect civic assets from illegal occupants.
Proposed Development Projects
At the Hariharpur and Hasanpur Khewli sites, the mayor proposed constructing Kalyan Mandaps, which are traditional marriage halls, alongside beautifully landscaped parks. These facilities are expected to offer accessible and affordable venues for weddings and social functions, reducing the community's dependence on expensive private marriage lawns.
The development is projected to generate steady revenue for the civic body, contributing to its financial sustainability. Additionally, the mayor instructed officials to explore further opportunities for maximizing revenue generation, including the development of parking spaces, community centres, and commercial activities tailored to local demand.

"We are retaining our encroached land from illegal occupants. To ensure it is not encroached again, we are in the process of first demarcating the land with boundaries, then further exploring other civic amenities as per the demand of the localities," Mayor Kharkwal stated. This community-focused strategy aims to enhance the quality of life for residents while fostering economic growth through public-private partnerships.
Municipal Commissioner Gaurav Kumar confirmed that a detailed land survey will be completed soon to facilitate the planning and execution of these projects.
