Pothole Crisis on Key Lucknow Road Puts Thousands of Daily Commuters at Risk
LUCKNOW: A critical stretch of road connecting Daliganj crossing to Lucknow University has become a hazardous passage for an estimated 5,000 to 7,000 daily commuters. The thoroughfare, riddled with deep potholes and severely worn-out patches, is significantly increasing the risk of accidents while causing persistent traffic slowdowns.
Severe Road Damage and Immediate Dangers
The road, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Lucknow Development Authority (LDA), exhibits multiple damaged sections directly along the main driving lane. This deterioration forces two-wheelers and cars to abruptly slow down or make sudden lane changes to navigate around the hazardous cavities.
In several locations, the top asphalt layer has completely peeled away, revealing that previous patchwork repairs have utterly failed, leaving the road surface compromised once again. This damaged infrastructure substantially elevates the risk of vehicles skidding, a particular danger for motorcycle and scooter riders.
The situation is further aggravated by high pedestrian activity and roadside vendors, creating a volatile environment where sudden braking or swerving on the uneven surface can easily lead to collisions.
Commuters Voice Grave Safety Concerns
Two-wheeler rider Vikas Kumar expressed the daily peril faced by bikers. "We are forced to brake suddenly to avoid these potholes. During peak hours, it becomes extremely risky. A simple trip on this uneven surface could result in a serious, injury-causing fall," he stated.
Auto-rickshaw driver Usman Khan highlighted the recurring nature of the problem. "The road was repaired earlier, but the surface has worn out again. Now, vehicles constantly swerve to avoid the damaged patches, which dramatically slows down all traffic flow," Khan explained.
A local resident emphasized the compounded danger for pedestrians. "When vehicles brake or change lanes without warning due to the potholes, it creates a significant hazard for people walking nearby," the resident noted.
Critical Commuter Route Demands Permanent Solution
Regular commuters stress that this route serves as a vital artery for students heading to Lucknow University and office-goers. One frequent traveler articulated the community's demand clearly: "This road is the primary link between Daliganj and the university, used by thousands of vehicles every single day. What we need is proper, complete resurfacing, not just another round of temporary patchwork that will disintegrate again."
Official Response and Promised Action
When contacted regarding the deteriorating condition, LDA Officer on Special Duty A.K. Senger acknowledged the issue. He clarified that the affected stretch is part of the second phase of the city's Green Corridor project. "We are aware of the situation and will undertake repairs on this section soon," Senger assured.
The authority's commitment to timely intervention is now awaited by the thousands of commuters who navigate this perilous corridor daily, hoping for a durable solution that restores safety and smooth transit to this essential Lucknow route.
