Madhubani District Magistrate Chairs Key Meeting for Border Village Development

District Magistrate Anand Sharma presided over a crucial meeting of the district-level committee under the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP) at the collectorate conference hall in Madhubani on Wednesday. The primary objective of this gathering was to strengthen infrastructure and livelihoods in remote border areas, marking a significant step towards transforming these strategic locations.

Focus on 36 Selected Villages Across Seven Border Blocks

The meeting concentrated on expediting development in 36 carefully selected villages spread across seven border blocks of Madhubani district. This region shares an international border with Nepal, making it a priority area for strategic enhancement. These villages have been officially identified under the Centre's Vibrant Villages Programme-II (VVP-II), a Central Sector Scheme designed to convert strategic border villages into self-reliant and vibrant communities.

Detailed Proposals for Essential Amenities

During the session, DM Anand Sharma instructed officers to prepare comprehensive proposals for a wide range of facilities. The list includes marriage halls, libraries, roads and connectivity improvements, community halls, Chhath ghats, sports grounds, health sub-centres, Adarsh Vidyalayas, integrated check posts, and other essential amenities. This multi-faceted approach aims to address various aspects of daily life and community needs.

Bridging Gaps and Promoting Self-Reliance

The Vibrant Villages Programme seeks to bridge existing gaps in services while improving access to healthcare and education. Additionally, it focuses on enhancing road infrastructure, electricity supply, water availability, and mobile connectivity. A key goal is to generate local employment opportunities, curb migration from border areas, and promote self-reliance among residents, thereby strengthening these communities from within.

Expanded Programme with Significant Funding

Approved by the Union cabinet in April 2025 with an impressive outlay of Rs 6,839 crore until the financial year 2028-29, the Vibrant Villages Programme-II represents an expansion beyond the northern border focus of VVP-I. It now covers villages along international borders across various states, including Bihar. The programme emphasises the convergence of existing schemes to ensure all-weather roads, reliable telecom services, television access, and other critical services.

Holistic Development Approach

Beyond basic infrastructure, the initiative promotes tourism development, livelihood creation, and national integration in border regions. By addressing multiple dimensions of development simultaneously, the programme aims to create sustainable communities that can thrive independently while contributing to regional stability and growth.
