Mandya District Confirms Sufficient Water Reserves for Summer Season

Mandya district nodal secretary Manoj Kumar Meena has provided a strong assurance that the district possesses adequate water reserves to fulfill both agricultural and drinking water requirements throughout the upcoming summer months. This declaration was made during a comprehensive district-level development review meeting held at the Zilla Panchayat.

Proactive Measures to Prevent Water Scarcity

Secretary Meena emphasized that Mandya is thoroughly prepared to avert any potential water scarcity. He issued clear instructions to all relevant officials to take necessary steps to protect and preserve all existing water sources within the district. In a decisive move, he directed tahsildars to actively identify and clear encroachments on lakes and other water bodies.

To ensure these reclaimed areas remain protected, Meena mandated the installation of proper fencing and informational signboards to prevent any future re-encroachment.

Review of Administrative and Financial Progress

The development meeting served as a platform to assess various administrative achievements. Secretary Meena reported significant progress in key areas:

  • Over 67,000 applications for Pouthi Khata have been successfully processed and disposed of.
  • More than Rs 892 crore has been distributed to beneficiaries under the central government's PM-Kisan scheme, providing crucial financial support to farmers.

Combating Unemployment Through Skill Development

Addressing the critical issue of unemployment, Meena, who also serves as the secretary for skill development, entrepreneurship, and livelihood, outlined a strategic approach. He urged the agriculture department and local universities to collaborate in training the district's youth in agro-based entrepreneurship.

The plan includes providing comprehensive technical guidance and facilitating access to financial support systems to empower young entrepreneurs. Furthermore, he stressed that trained self-help groups must be integrated into genuine employment opportunities to ensure the sustainability of these initiatives.

Focus on Water Quality and Sanitation

In line with national health and sanitation goals, Meena directed officials to maintain strict monitoring of drinking water quality under the Jal Jeevan Mission. He also called for the implementation of scientific waste management practices, emphasizing the importance of waste segregation at the source to promote overall cleanliness and public health in the district.

Additional District Achievements Highlighted

During the meeting, other officials presented notable accomplishments:

  1. Deputy Commissioner Kumara reported an impressive 89% collection rate for property tax, indicating strong fiscal management.
  2. Zilla Panchayat CEO KR Nandini highlighted the success of women-led enterprises and ongoing efforts to secure Geographical Indication (GI) tags for Maddur Vada and Mandya Jaggery, which would boost local products and the economy.

Secretary Meena concluded by reinforcing that industrial growth, coupled with sustained skill development and entrepreneurial support, is fundamental to eradicating unemployment and fostering long-term prosperity in Mandya district.
