Mangaluru-Moodubidire Traffic Diversions Announced for 30-Day NH 169 Road Repair Project

Mangaluru city police commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy has officially announced significant traffic diversions affecting the crucial National Highway 169 corridor between Mangaluru and Moodubidire. The diversions will be in effect for a full thirty-day period to facilitate essential road repair work near Machoor Cross at Edapadavu in the Bajpe region.

Repair Work Details and Safety Measures

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has initiated these urgent repairs following the development of cracks and noticeable deterioration of the road surface. This damage has been attributed primarily to the intense and continuous heavy vehicular movement that characterizes this vital transportation artery. Commissioner Reddy emphasized that the repair schedule is strategically planned from February 12 to March 13, 2024, with the primary objective of ensuring long-term smooth traffic flow and enhanced road safety for all commuters.

In the interest of public safety and to minimize disruption, all vehicles traveling between Mangaluru and Moodubidire are strongly advised to utilize the designated alternative routes throughout this entire maintenance period. The police authority has issued detailed diversion plans categorically for different vehicle types to maintain order and efficiency.

Detailed Diversion Routes for Heavy Vehicles and Trucks

For trucks and other heavy commercial vehicles, specific routes have been mandated to manage load and ensure smoother transit.

  • Trucks from Moodubidire to Mangaluru: Drivers must turn right at Vidyagiri Mulki Cross, proceed along Kinnigoli Road, then turn right again at Pakshikere Cross. From there, the route continues via Mulki Junction and Surathkal to finally reach Mangaluru.
  • Trucks from Mangaluru to Moodubidire: These vehicles should follow the identical diversion path in reverse, ensuring consistency and reducing confusion.
  • Trucks from Mangaluru to Karkala: A separate route is advised. These trucks should travel via National Highway 66, passing through Surathkal, Mulki, and Padubidri before proceeding onwards towards Karkala.

Alternative Paths for Light Motor Vehicles and Buses

Light motor vehicles, including cars and auto-rickshaws, as well as buses, have been provided with multiple alternative options to choose from based on convenience and destination.

  1. For Light Vehicles from Moodubidire to Mangaluru: The primary route involves turning right at Vidyagiri Mulki Cross and proceeding via Kinnigoli Road. From this point, drivers have two choices:
    • Travel via Moorkaveri, Kateel, Permude, and Bajpe.
    • Alternatively, turn left at Pakshikere Cross and proceed via Haleangadi and Surathkal to reach Mangaluru.
  2. For Buses and Light Vehicles: Another viable option is to turn right at Daddi Cross. The route then proceeds via Pumarpadavu Cross, Manjanakatte Cross, Arjunakodi, and Eshwarakatte Cross. Vehicles should then turn right at Machoor Cross and travel via Kaikamba and Gurupura to head towards Mangaluru.

Commissioner Reddy and the NHAI have appealed to all commuters, transport operators, and local residents to plan their journeys in advance, exercise patience, and strictly adhere to these diversion instructions. Cooperation from the public is deemed crucial for the successful and timely completion of this essential infrastructure maintenance work, which aims to restore the NH 169 to optimal condition for future travel.
