Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal on Wednesday chaired a meeting to review the Buddha Dariya Rejuvenation Project at the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s (MC) Zone D office. He issued strict directives to penalize dairy owners who continue to dump cow dung into the Buddha Dariya.
Strict action ordered against violators
MP Seechewal instructed Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) officials to take stern action against dairy owners and impose environment compensation (EC) if necessary to curb the dumping of cow dung. He also ordered similar action against anyone disposing of waste into the dariya, whether within or outside city limits.
Additionally, the MP directed Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) officials to cut power connections of violators and pursue strict legal action against them.
Officials present at the meeting
The meeting was attended by MC Joint Commissioner Vineet Kumar, Joint Commissioner Amanpreet Singh, Assistant Commissioner (General) Payal Goyal, Assistant Commissioner Jasdev Sekhon, ACP (East) Raj Kumar, and representatives from PPCB, PSPCL, and the Punjab Water Supply and Sewerage Board.
No laxity tolerated
Seechewal emphasized that the administration is not against any particular sector or industry but must stop all waste dumping in the dariya. He urged everyone to come forward and contribute to reducing pollution in the area. “We are regularly monitoring the situation at the ground level and officials have been directed to remain active in the field too. No laxity would be tolerated in this context,” he added.
