The Municipal Corporation of Panchkula has achieved a record revenue collection of Rs 7.57 crore during the first quarter of the current financial year, from April 1 to June 30. This marks a substantial 78% increase compared to the Rs 4.26 crore collected in the same period last year.
Revenue Breakdown
The civic body collected Rs 5.92 crore from property tax, Rs 36 lakh from fire tax, and Rs 1.29 crore from garbage collection charges. These figures highlight the effectiveness of recent tax collection initiatives.
Initiatives Driving Collection
Several measures were implemented to strengthen tax collection, including regular reviews, special recovery drives, strict action against major defaulters, and public awareness campaigns to encourage timely payments. The corporation issued initial notices to 752 property owners with outstanding dues exceeding Rs 2 lakh. Of these, 47 owners have cleared their dues, while second notices will soon be sent to the remaining 705 defaulters.
Self-Certification Campaign
The Municipal Corporation's self-certification campaign has received an encouraging response. Out of 104,631 properties in the city, 44,002 have completed the self-certification process, accounting for 42.05% of the total.
Future Outlook
In the previous financial year, the civic body collected a total revenue of Rs 14.72 crore. Officials expressed confidence that the strong performance in the first quarter positions the corporation to set new benchmarks in revenue collection in the coming months. The focus remains on promoting voluntary tax compliance while ensuring timely recovery of all outstanding dues.
