Prayagraj Cow Shelters Embrace Digital Surveillance for Enhanced Cattle Care
The animal husbandry department in Uttar Pradesh has embarked on a significant modernization drive, installing advanced digital surveillance systems at numerous government-run cow shelters across the Prayagraj division. This initiative is a core component of a state-backed programme designed to boost transparency, accountability, and infrastructure within cattle care facilities statewide.
Comprehensive CCTV Coverage Across Multiple Districts
As part of this ambitious project, high-tech CCTV cameras have been successfully deployed at shelters in Prayagraj, Fatehpur, and Pratapgarh districts. Installation work is currently in its final stages in Kaushambi district. A centralised monitoring control room established at Vikas Bhawan in Prayagraj will empower authorities to supervise shelter operations in real time, ensuring efficient oversight.
Dr S N Singh, the Chief Veterinary Officer of Prayagraj district, highlighted that the district alone now has 121 shelters equipped with these surveillance systems. This enables continuous, round-the-clock monitoring of approximately 24,000 cows. The cameras are outfitted with sophisticated night-vision technology, guaranteeing uninterrupted observation even after dark.
Expanding Monitoring to Critical Shelter Areas
The surveillance system's coverage has been strategically extended to previously unmonitored zones within the shelters. This includes critical areas such as cattle sheds, designated feeding zones, and essential treatment facilities, ensuring comprehensive oversight of animal welfare and operational integrity.
Dr Anil Kumar, Deputy Director (Grade-II) of Animal Husbandry, confirmed that the digital control rooms are now fully operational in the three aforementioned districts. He further noted that once installations are finalized at the remaining shelters, monitoring capabilities will expand to cover 63 shelters in Fatehpur, 64 in Pratapgarh, and 76 in Kaushambi.
Statewide Digital Transformation for Cattle Care
Uttar Pradesh boasts a vast network of 6,718 rural cow shelters spread across 75 districts. In the initial phase of this digital transformation programme, the state aims to equip 4,336 shelters located in 65 districts with these modern monitoring systems. This represents a major stride toward implementing systematic, technology-driven governance for cattle care facilities throughout the state, setting a new standard for animal welfare management.
