Pune Divisional Commissioner Urges Swift Action on Growth Hub Plan
Divisional Commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has issued a clear directive to officials to accelerate survey work, ensuring the timely preparation of a draft macro-economic development plan for the proposed Pune Growth Hub. The instruction was delivered during a comprehensive review meeting of the Pune Metropolitan Growth Hub held at Council Hall on Friday.
Collaborative Workshops to Shape the Blueprint
Pulkundwar emphasized that the plan must be formulated based on inputs gathered from specialized workshops. These sessions will involve representatives from various government departments, agencies, and the private and industrial sectors. "I instructed all agencies to speed up work. The Pune Metropolitan Region was included in Niti Aayog's 'Growth Hub' initiative to position the region prominently in the global economy," Pulkundwar stated in an interview with TOI.
He further clarified that a draft macro-economic development plan is essential and must be submitted to the state government for approval. To facilitate this process, renowned institutions such as the ISEG Foundation and McKinsey & Company have been appointed to collate and synthesize the inputs from these collaborative workshops.
High-Level Attendance and Traffic Management Focus
The meeting saw participation from key officials, including Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shravan Hardikar and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority Commissioner Yogesh Mhase, who joined via video conference.
In a parallel development during the review meeting of the Pune Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (PUMTA) committee, Pulkundwar directed officials to identify traffic congestion hotspots and implement targeted projects for effective traffic regulation. Specific discussions centered on traffic management measures at critical locations such as:
- Vishrantwadi
- Mundhwa Chowk
- Market Yard to Seven Loves Chowk
- Golibar Maidan
- Ghorpadi Bridge
- Magarpatta Area
This dual focus on economic planning and infrastructure improvement underscores a holistic approach to enhancing Pune's metropolitan development and global economic positioning.
