The Secunderabad Cantonment Board (SCB) on Wednesday approved its budget for 2026-27 and cleared several development projects across all eight wards, utilizing funds received in exchange for land allocated for the proposed elevated corridor. This move is expected to significantly boost civic infrastructure in the cantonment area.
Budget Approval and Development Works
The board approved a budget outlay of ₹317.78 crore for 2026-27 and also cleared budget estimates of ₹310.32 crore for 2027-28. Development works worth approximately ₹316 crore were sanctioned for the cantonment area. These funds include ₹303 crore from an escrow account, paid by the central government for land earmarked for the elevated corridor project, and an additional ₹13 crore expected to be received. The amount will be utilized for underground drainage and nala development works in all eight wards, to be executed by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA).
Meeting Highlights
The decisions were taken at the board’s governing body meeting chaired by SCB president Brigadier S Rajeev. Malkajgiri MP Eatala Rajender, Secunderabad Cantonment MLA Sri Ganesh, nominated member Narmada, and chief executive officer Arvind Kumar Dwivedi attended the meeting. During the session, the MP and MLA raised concerns over permission granted for the construction of a compound wall around the disputed eight-acre land parcel in Survey No. 157/1 at New Bowenpally. Responding to the issue, the CEO stated that the permission had been granted in compliance with high court directions.
Traffic and Housing Issues
The board also discussed traffic congestion caused by garbage transport vehicles parked along both sides of Mudfort Road. Officials informed members that steps were being taken to shift the vehicles to vacant land. They also clarified that houses belonging to poor residents would not be demolished as part of these efforts.
