Service Lanes on Kisan Path to Boost Connectivity in Lucknow's Chinhat Area
Service Lanes on Kisan Path to Boost Lucknow Connectivity

Residents of Chinhat and surrounding localities in Lucknow can expect improved connectivity to the Lucknow-Ayodhya and Lucknow-Sultanpur national highways. Service lanes are planned along both sides of the Kisan Path, a 13-kilometer stretch that forms part of the outer ring road between Sultanpur Road and Ayodhya Road. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has submitted a proposal worth Rs 185 crore to construct these lanes, citing increased urbanization and habitation in the area. Once funds are sanctioned, the project is expected to take one year to complete.

Addressing Traffic Congestion and Safety

The main carriageway of Kisan Path currently handles both city traffic and heavy vehicles, leading to overburdening. Local residents and elected representatives have long demanded service lanes to ease congestion. NHAI's Lucknow project implementation unit director, Nakul Prakash Verma, noted that numerous colonies and apartments have emerged along the path, increasing the need for safer commuting. Villages such as Lolai, Mehora, Bakkas, Mehmoodpur, Juggaur, and Dularmau have seen development of plotted colonies and row houses. Service lanes will reduce the risk of accidents caused by local villagers riding two-wheelers in the wrong direction to save time.

Details of the Service Lane Project

Each service lane will be 3.50 meters wide. The lane linking Ayodhya Road to Sultanpur Road will span 9.31 kilometers, while the opposite lane will be 8.80 kilometers long. The irrigation department has approved the handover of its land for construction, which will fast-track the project. A senior irrigation department officer explained that land originally set aside for embankment along the Indira Canal will be utilized for the service lanes. Previously, similar land was provided to NHAI for building the six-lane Kisan Path along the canal.
