Shillong District Authorities Issue Mandatory Fire Safety Audit Directive
In response to a concerning increase in fire incidents, the East Khasi Hills deputy commissioner and chairperson of the District Disaster Management Authority has issued a sweeping mandate for comprehensive fire safety audits across the district. This directive applies to a wide range of structures, including residential buildings, commercial establishments, educational institutions, and office complexes.
Proactive Measures to Enhance Public Safety
The official order describes this initiative as a proactive preventive measure specifically designed to minimize the risk of fire outbreaks and significantly enhance overall public safety throughout the region. The directive explicitly covers commercial establishments, educational institutions, hospitals, government offices, assembly areas, and various other types of establishments that house people and property.
Mandatory Fire Clearance Certification Process
In alignment with this new directive, all concerned establishments are strongly advised to apply for a fire clearance certificate or fire no objection certificate (NOC) through the official online portal at investmeghalaya.gov.in at the earliest possible opportunity. Alternatively, establishments may approach the office of the Superintendent of Police (fire & emergency services) directly to seek assistance with the certification process.
District Authority Calls for Stakeholder Cooperation
The District Disaster Management Authority has urgently called upon all stakeholders to cooperate fully with authorities to ensure complete compliance with established fire safety norms. This collaborative effort is deemed essential to effectively safeguard both life and property across the entire state of Meghalaya. The authority emphasizes that this comprehensive approach to fire safety represents a critical step toward preventing future tragedies and creating a more secure environment for all residents and visitors.
The timing of this directive follows a noticeable pattern of fire incidents that have raised alarms among local officials and community members alike. By implementing these rigorous safety audits and certification requirements, authorities aim to identify potential hazards before they escalate into emergencies, thereby protecting valuable assets and, most importantly, human lives throughout East Khasi Hills district.
