Special Intensive Revision of Electoral Rolls Begins June 30 in Karnataka and Four Other States
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls is set to commence on June 30 in Karnataka and four other states. Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will conduct house-to-house visits from June 30 to July 29 to update the electoral rolls. This exercise aims to ensure accurate and up-to-date voter lists ahead of upcoming elections.
How to Fill Enumeration Forms Online and Offline
Eligible voters can fill the enumeration forms through both online and offline methods. For online submission, visit the official website of the Chief Electoral Officer of your state. Offline forms can be obtained from BLOs during their house visits or at designated polling stations. The forms require basic details such as name, age, address, and photo identification.
According to the Election Commission of India, the SIR will cover all assembly constituencies in Karnataka, along with select constituencies in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. This initiative is part of the continuous updation of electoral rolls.
Booth Level Officers to Conduct Door-to-Door Verification
BLOs will visit each household to verify existing voters and enroll new eligible voters. They will carry a pre-filled form with current voter details for correction if needed. Voters are advised to keep their voter ID cards and supporting documents ready for verification.
"The SIR is crucial for maintaining the accuracy of electoral rolls. We urge all citizens to cooperate with BLOs and ensure their names are correctly listed," said a senior Election Commission official.
Key Dates and Deadlines
- House-to-house enumeration: June 30 to July 29
- Online form submission: Available throughout the period
- Final publication of updated rolls: To be announced later
Impact of the Revision
The SIR will add new voters who have turned 18, remove deceased voters, and correct any errors in existing entries. This exercise is expected to benefit millions of voters in the five states. In Karnataka alone, over 5 crore voters are registered, and the revision aims to capture any changes since the last update.
Voters can also check their enrollment status online through the National Voters' Service Portal (NVSP) or by contacting their local election office. The offline forms must be submitted to the BLO or at the designated collection center within the stipulated time.
