Thane to Implement Dedicated Parking Policy for Commercial Vehicles to Combat Traffic Chaos
In a significant initiative aimed at alleviating Thane's escalating traffic crisis, the state government has committed to developing a specialized parking policy for commercial vehicles, which are identified as primary contributors to the city's road congestion. This announcement was made by MLC Niranjan Davkhare during a recent Thane District Planning Committee (DPDC) meeting, highlighting the urgent need for structured solutions to the persistent traffic woes plaguing the metropolitan area.
Rampant Parking Issues Flagged at Key Meeting
During the DPDC session, which was presided over by Deputy Chief Minister and Thane Guardian Minister Eknath Shinde, Davkhare brought attention to the widespread and unregulated parking of commercial vehicles. He emphasized that these vehicles are frequently parked indiscriminately outside residential housing societies and along service roads, creating severe bottlenecks and exacerbating traffic congestion across Thane and its suburban regions.
Davkhare articulated the daily hardships faced by motorists, stating, "The absence of a coherent parking framework has led to significant daily inconveniences and acute traffic jams. It is imperative that the urban development department intervenes with a comprehensive and effective policy to regulate this issue."
Positive Response from State Leadership
In response to these concerns, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde provided an encouraging and affirmative reply. He confirmed that the development department would take proactive steps to formulate an appropriate and robust policy specifically designed to manage and regulate the parking of commercial vehicles in Thane.
