Trichy Corporation Proposes Semi-Automation for Multi-Level Car Parking to Boost Revenue
Trichy MLCP to Get Semi-Automated for Better Operations

Trichy Corporation Moves to Semi-Automate Multi-Level Car Parking Facility

The Trichy Corporation has unveiled a proposal to semi-automate the Multi-Level Car Parking (MLCP) facility located on West Boulevard Road near the Main Guard Gate. This strategic initiative aims to significantly improve revenue generation and streamline day-to-day operations for the civic body.

Key Features of the Automation Plan

Under the new plan, a contractor will be appointed to install advanced technological systems. These include sensor-based boom barriers at entry and exit points, automated ticket dispensers, and Automated Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras. The integrated system will meticulously record vehicle details and entry times to calculate parking fees accurately.

Digital payment options, such as QR codes, will be prominently printed on tickets to facilitate seamless transactions. Despite the automation, a few staff members will be deployed to assist users and oversee operations, ensuring a smooth transition and user support.

Financial and Operational Details

Corporation officials have clarified that no fresh investments will be made by the civic body. Instead, the Trichy Corporation will receive a share of the revenue generated from daily and monthly parking fees. The MLCP boasts a capacity of 214 cars across four levels, but it has accommodated up to 300 vehicles during peak festival periods, generating as much as Rs 18,000 per day in revenue.

An official stated, "At least four workers will be required to manage operations even after automation. We plan to finalise a contractor with experience in operating MLCPs by the end of the month." The facility was commissioned in October 2024 and was previously operated manually. A private contractor withdrew in December last year, citing poor patronage as the reason.

Challenges and Future Prospects

Officials emphasized that support from city traffic police is crucial to redirect roadside parking into the MLCP. This measure is expected to ensure better utilisation of the facility and prevent congestion in the surrounding areas. The semi-automation effort represents a proactive step towards modernising urban infrastructure in Trichy, aligning with broader goals of efficiency and revenue enhancement.
