Uttarakhand Transport Department Launches Major Youth Initiative for Road Safety and Environmental Awareness
The Uttarakhand transport department spearheaded a significant public awareness campaign on Thursday with the organization of the Road Safety & Green Earth Youth Festival 2026. This large-scale event was hosted at a prominent private university in Dehradun, strategically designed to engage the student population on critical issues of traffic safety and environmental stewardship.
Massive Student Participation and Diverse Program Highlights
The festival witnessed an impressive turnout, with approximately 3,000 students representing various universities and educational institutions from across the state. The comprehensive program blended entertainment with education, featuring a series of cultural competitions alongside informative sessions focused on traffic safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
In the competitive arena, several institutions distinguished themselves. DIT University emerged victorious in the highly anticipated fashion ramp walk competition. Meanwhile, the talented students of Uttaranchal University secured first place for their captivating live band performance. Additional accolades were awarded to Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand University and Graphic Era University, which claimed trophies across multiple categories including dance, painting, and skit performances.
Official Emphasis on Youth Leadership and Practical Training
Senior transport officials underscored the festival's core mission. Additional Transport Commissioner Sanat Kumar Singh emphasized that the initiative was fundamentally aimed at motivating young people to become ambassadors for traffic rule compliance. "If youth lead by example and diligently follow traffic norms, we can achieve a significant reduction in road accidents," Singh stated, highlighting the potential impact of peer-led behavioral change.
The event extended beyond theoretical discussions to include hands-on, practical demonstrations. Attendees participated in crash investigation simulations and received vital training in first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) techniques, equipping them with life-saving skills.

Regional Transport Officer (Enforcement & Road Safety) Anita Chamola addressed the foundational principles of road safety. She articulated that achieving safer roads is intrinsically linked to cultivating personal discipline and a sense of collective responsibility. "Through active youth participation in events like this, our strategic goal is to substantially increase public awareness regarding safe and responsible driving practices," Chamola explained, framing the festival as a catalyst for broader societal education.
