Visakhapatnam Launches Comprehensive 'Happy Sunday' Community Wellness Initiative
In a significant move to enhance urban living, the Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) has successfully implemented the "Happy Sunday" program across all zones of the city. This community-driven initiative, conducted under the directives of the municipal administration and urban development department, represents a major step toward fostering citizen well-being and neighborhood cohesion.
Official Guidelines and Program Objectives
GVMC Commissioner Ketan Garg provided detailed insights into the program's framework and goals. "The state government has issued specific orders and guidelines to establish 'Happy Sunday' as a voluntary, community-driven urban engagement movement across all urban local bodies," stated Garg. He emphasized that the primary objectives include promoting citizens' well-being in urban areas, strengthening neighborhood bonding, encouraging healthy lifestyles, and enhancing the positive utilization of public spaces.
The commissioner reported enthusiastic participation from a diverse cross-section of the community. "A large number of citizens, residents' welfare associations, students, senior citizens, and public representatives actively and enthusiastically participated in the programs," Garg noted, highlighting the community's positive response to this new initiative.

"These programs foster community bonding among citizens, strengthen family relationships, encourage students to actively participate in sports and cultural activities, and create greater awareness about cleanliness among the public," Garg explained.
