25,870 NRI complaints resolved in 4 years: Punjab Minister

Punjab NRI Affairs Minister Ravjot Singh on Wednesday stated that 25,870 out of 26,828 complaints received from Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) between January 2022 and May 2026 have been resolved. He made the announcement during the ‘NRI Milni-2026’ event held in Sector 82, Mohali.

Event Highlights and Ministerial Assurance

Ravjot Singh emphasized that every issue of NRI Punjabis would be addressed in a transparent, fair and time-bound manner. The event saw participation from a large number of NRIs belonging to the districts of Mohali, Rupnagar, Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib. The minister noted that Punjabis settled abroad continued to maintain a deep bond with their roots, culture and heritage, and had earned global recognition for both Punjab and India.

Complaint Resolution Statistics

According to the minister, the NRI Affairs Department registered 1,187 FIRs and arrested 1,451 accused in connection with NRI grievances during the same period. The majority of complaints were related to property disputes, illegal occupation of land, document irregularities and matrimonial issues. “Every year, nearly 5,000 complaints are received, with a substantial number being resolved through mutual settlement or legal processes,” said Ravjot, adding that he was personally monitoring pending cases where proceedings had been delayed.

Focus on Canada PR and Forged Documents

Ravjot also addressed the serious issue of contract marriages and procurement of work permits or permanent residency (PR) through forged documents in Canada. He described it as a matter of national importance. While acknowledging that the legal framework governing such matters falls under Parliament’s jurisdiction, he said the Punjab Government was actively addressing a growing number of such cases within the state. “We will strongly present Punjab’s case before the Union Government to secure a permanent and effective solution to such problems,” the minister stated.
