Delhi LG Directs 20% Reservation for Ex-Agniveers in Group C Posts

In a significant move to integrate former Agniveers into the civic framework, Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu on Thursday directed key departments to amend recruitment rules to provide 20% reservation for ex-Agniveers in Group C posts. The decision was taken during a meeting with the Chief Secretary, Commissioner of Police, and other senior officials.

Scope of Reservation

The reservation will apply to direct recruitment in Group C positions across four critical departments: Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Service, Prisons Department, and the Department of Environment, Forest & Wildlife. This includes posts such as police constables, firemen, jail warders, forest guards, and wildlife guards.

Timeline for Implementation

Sandhu directed the concerned departments to finalize the necessary processes and amend the Recruitment Rules before June 30. The initiative aligns with the guiding vision of the Government of India to harness the discipline and military training of Agniveers.

The LG had earlier proposed the recruitment of ex-Agniveers to the Delhi Fire Service in a meeting held on June 8. The latest directive expands the quota to other departments, aiming to optimally utilize the skills of these trained youths.

Government's Commitment

Reaffirming the government's commitment to national service rendered by Agniveers, Sandhu noted that integrating these dedicated individuals into the civic framework will significantly augment the capital's institutional resilience. This move is expected to drive forward the collective vision of a progressive Viksit Dilli.

The decision has been welcomed as a step towards recognizing the contributions of Agniveers and providing them with stable career opportunities in public service.
