Farmers End Phagwara Blockade After Power Assurance

Farmers Block Phagwara-Hoshiarpur Road Over Power Shortage

On Friday, farmers affiliated with the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Doaba) staged a protest outside the PSPCL office on Hoshiarpur Road in Phagwara, alleging acute electricity shortage during the paddy sowing season. Led by state vice-president Harbhajan Singh Bajwa, the demonstrators demanded uninterrupted power supply to agricultural feeders.

Protest Intensifies With Road Blockade

After being denied a meeting with PSPCL officials, the farmers began a dharna and blocked the Hoshiarpur-Phagwara road, causing significant traffic disruption. Addressing media, Bajwa accused the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab Government of false claims, stating that instead of the promised eight hours of continuous power, farmers received only two to three hours, severely impacting paddy transplantation.

Police Intervention and Assurance

Local police, led by SHO (City) Amandeep Kaur, reached the protest site and initiated talks. Subsequently, the PSPCL Phagwara XEN assured the farmers of uninterrupted eight-hour electricity supply to agricultural feeders starting June 28, 2026.
