Yamunanagar MC: Property Tax Waiver Ends June 30, Full Interest After
Yamunanagar MC: Property Tax Waiver Ends June 30

The Municipal Corporation of Yamunanagar-Jagadhri (MCYJ) has warned property tax defaulters that the current 100% interest waiver scheme will expire on June 30, 2026. After this date, the civic body will recover the full principal amount along with all accumulated interest, and will also initiate action to seal defaulting properties.

Interest Waiver Scheme Details

Under the scheme announced by the Haryana Government, the entire interest on property tax arrears from the financial year 2010-11 up to 2024-25 has been waived. Property owners who pay their outstanding tax by June 30, 2026, will benefit from this waiver. After the deadline, no further waiver will be applicable, and interest will be charged in full.

Mayor Suman Bahamani confirmed the scheme, stating, “Under the scheme, the entire interest on the property tax arrears from 2010-11 to 2024-25 has been waived. Any property owner who pays their property tax by June 30 will have the entire interest waived.” She further clarified that the benefit is only available to those who pay the outstanding amount before the deadline and self-verify their property.

Payment Locations and Process

Property owners can deposit their tax at any of the three Citizen Facilitation Centres set up by MCYJ: the main office in Jagadhri, Kanhaiya Sahib Chowk, and Shaheed Bhagat Singh Chowk. The tax can be paid in cash, cheque, or online modes available at these centres.

Mayor Bahamani urged all defaulters to take advantage of the scheme to avoid severe consequences. “I appeal to all property tax defaulters to pay their property tax without interest before June 30 to prevent their properties from being sealed,” she said.

Defaulters and Enforcement

Zonal Taxation Officer Ajay Walia revealed that there are approximately 2,17,500 properties within the MCYJ jurisdiction. A significant number of these have pending property tax payments. “The defaulters can pay their property tax up to June 30 without interest. After June 30, action will be taken to seal their properties,” Walia stated. He added that after the deadline, the tax along with full interest would be recovered from all defaulters.

The MCYJ has also been instructed to resolve property tax-related objections quickly. Mayor Bahamani issued orders to officials to expedite the resolution of pending objections so that property owners can avail the waiver. “Some people have raised property tax-related objections to take advantage of the scheme. Keeping public interest in mind, all officials should resolve pending property tax objections as quickly as possible,” she said.

Impact and Advisory

Property owners are advised to verify their tax dues and pay before the June 30 deadline to avoid additional financial burden and legal action. The sealing of properties will be carried out as per the provisions of the Haryana Municipal Corporation Act, and defaulters may also face disconnection of water and electricity connections.

This initiative is part of the state government’s efforts to improve tax compliance and generate revenue for urban local bodies. The waiver scheme is expected to bring a large number of defaulters into the tax net, providing much-needed funds for civic infrastructure and services.
