In a major disciplinary action, fifteen police personnel, including three sub-inspectors, were suspended in Pilibhit on Thursday for remaining absent from duty for extended periods after availing approved casual leave, officials confirmed.
Suspended Officers and Duration of Absence
The suspended sub-inspectors are Dinesh Kumar and Krishna Kumar, both posted in the reserve police lines, and Vikas Kumar, posted at Pilibhit Kotwali police station. According to police records, Dinesh had been absent since May 4, Krishna since May 15, and Vikas since May 24.
Other personnel placed under suspension include one head constable, eight constables, one woman constable, and two sweepers. Among them, Lucky Babu, a sweeper posted at Deuria police station, had been absent since March 3, making him the longest absentee on the list.
Reason for Suspension
Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukirti Madhav stated that the action was taken to ensure discipline, accountability, and dutifulness within the department. “The suspensions were ordered because the personnel remained absent from duty for a long time after availing approved leave,” he said.
SP Madhav added that the concerned circle officers would conduct inquiries against the suspended personnel and submit reports within 15 days, followed by departmental inquiries.
Background of the Case
Several of the suspended personnel had been granted casual leave for periods ranging from two to six days in March this year but failed to report back to duty afterward. The prolonged absences prompted the department to take strict action.
This move underscores the police department's commitment to maintaining discipline and ensuring that all personnel fulfill their duties responsibly. The inquiries will determine further disciplinary measures, which could include termination if found guilty of gross misconduct.
