In a significant verdict, the court of Fatehabad's additional and sessions judge, Special Judge-cum-Fast Track Court, Amit Garg, has convicted Fatehabad resident Abhijeet for the rape of a 14-year-old minor girl. The case, which dates back 16 months, resulted in a stern sentence of 20 years in prison for the accused.
Court Imposes Heavy Fine and Compensation for Victim
The court not only handed down the lengthy prison term but also imposed a substantial fine of Rs 1,70,000. Of this amount, Rs 1,00,000 is designated to be given directly to the victim as compensation, underscoring the court's focus on providing relief to the survivor. In its ruling, the court emphasized that such heinous crimes represent a grave blow to society, and showing any mercy to the accused would constitute a travesty of justice.
Details of the Case and Police Investigation
According to Fatehabad district attorney Devendra Mittal, the police registered an FIR on October 13, 2024, based on a complaint filed by the victim's father. The complaint detailed how Abhijeet allegedly used to lure the minor girl with food and drinks while she was on her way to school. In September of that year, the situation escalated when Abhijeet forcibly took the girl to the fields near Chilli Lake, where he raped her. When she resisted, he beat her and threatened to kill her, adding to the trauma of the assault.
Following a thorough investigation, the police acted swiftly, arresting the accused on October 16, 2024. The case highlights the critical role of prompt police action and judicial processes in addressing crimes against minors, with the court's decision serving as a strong message against such offenses in society.
