In a shocking case of abduction and extortion, the Kotputli-Behror police in Rajasthan have successfully apprehended four individuals accused of kidnapping an elderly real estate businessman and demanding a massive ransom of Rs 10 crore. The crime, which police have described as a meticulously planned "honey trap", unfolded in Jaipur on December 12.
The Daylight Abduction Outside a Temple
According to Superintendent of Police Devendra Kumar Bishnoi, the incident occurred in broad daylight. The victim, identified as Kailash Vijayvargiya, had just finished offering his morning prayers at a Shiv temple located on Dabla Road. As he exited the temple premises, the four suspects accosted him.
Armed with a gun, the men forced Vijayvargiya into a car and swiftly drove away. They took a circuitous route through deserted roads to avoid detection, eventually reaching a dilapidated building near Sundarpura. A female accomplice was already waiting at this secluded location.
Assault, Threats, and Obscene Videos for Extortion
At the hideout, the situation turned violent and psychologically torturous for the businessman. The suspects physically assaulted Vijayvargiya. To further terrorize him, they fired shots into the air. The plot then took a sinister turn aimed at blackmail.
The accused, with the woman's involvement, recorded obscene videos of Vijayvargiya. These videos became the central tool for their extortion demand. They threatened to release the footage publicly unless a staggering sum of Rs 10 crore was paid within ten days.
Police Pressure Leads to Victim's Release and Arrests
Once the kidnapping was reported, law enforcement sprang into action. Technical surveillance was immediately activated, and multiple police teams were deployed to track the culprits. The intense investigative pressure soon spooked the kidnappers.
Fearing imminent arrest, the accused abandoned their plan. On the same day as the abduction, they released Vijayvargiya near Bopiya Stand and fled the scene. However, the police net was closing in. Based on their technical and field investigation, authorities identified and arrested the four accused on Thursday.
The arrested individuals have been named as Vikka Gurjar, Dholaram Gurjar, Krishna Gurjar, and Shersingh Rajput. All are young men, aged between 23 and 25 years. The hunt for the female accomplice and further investigation into the racket are ongoing.
This case highlights the audacious methods employed by criminals targeting affluent individuals. The swift police response, however, prevented the payment of the ransom and led to quick arrests, bringing a measure of relief to the business community in the region.
