In a significant crackdown on narcotics, the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (Dansaf) in Thiruvananthapuram arrested four people and seized a massive 46.5 kilograms of ganja in coordinated raids on Saturday. The operation marks a major success in the city's intensified surveillance against drug trafficking.
Coordinated Raids Uncover Two Consignments
The special force carried out simultaneous operations at two key locations: Vizhinjam and Poonthura. This strategic move was part of a heightened drive to curb the flow of illegal drugs within the state capital.
At Vizhinjam, the Dansaf team apprehended two individuals identified as Mujeeb and Biju Kumar, both residents of Vattiyoorkavu. From them, the officers recovered 4.5 kg of ganja. Preliminary investigations suggested the duo was allegedly preparing to distribute the contraband in smaller quantities to local peddlers.
Interrogation Leads to Larger Haul
During the questioning of the first two suspects, crucial intelligence emerged about a much larger consignment being transported elsewhere. Acting swiftly on this tip-off, Dansaf officials intercepted a car near Paruthikuzhi in the Poonthura area.
A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of a 42 kg stash of ganja, neatly packed in 20 large packets. Police revealed that the drugs were concealed in a specially created secret compartment inside the car, a tactic clearly designed to avoid detection during routine checks.
Two more men were arrested in connection with this substantial seizure. They have been named as Prathyush from Poojappura and Muhammed Azarudheen of Karimadom. The cars used for transporting the narcotics have also been seized by the authorities.
Interstate Network Under Scanner
The preliminary investigation has uncovered an interstate dimension to the trafficking ring. Police indicated that the seized ganja was sourced from other Indian states, primarily Odisha, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu.
A further probe is actively underway to trace the entire supply chain. Officers are focusing on identifying the main suppliers, the financiers backing the operations, and other key links in the network. Given the scale of the seizure and the interstate connections, police have confirmed that more arrests are likely in the coming days as the investigation deepens.
