A massive Lok Adalat drive across Rajasthan on Saturday led to the settlement of a total of 5,49,911 pending matters in district and revenue courts. The cases resolved included cheque bounce disputes, bank recovery cases, matrimonial conflicts, motor accident claims, and electricity bill matters.
High Court and District Courts Settlements
Out of the total settled cases, 2,93,740 were disposed of in the High Court and district courts. Awards amounting to nearly ₹715 crore were passed in favor of the litigants, providing substantial financial relief.
Organised Under National Legal Services Authority
The statewide exercise was conducted under the directions of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and coordinated by the Rajasthan State Legal Services Authority (RSLSA) across various courts and tribunals in the state.
The formal inauguration took place at the new building of the Rajasthan High Court in Jaipur. Acting Chief Justice and RSLSA Executive Chairman Sanjeev Prakash Sharma inaugurated the proceedings.
Emphasis on Alternative Dispute Resolution
Addressing the gathering, Justice Sanjeev Prakash Sharma highlighted the growing importance of Lok Adalats, mediation, and pre-litigation settlement mechanisms. He stated that these methods make the justice delivery system faster, more accessible, and affordable.
“Settlement of minor disputes outside courts through mutual consent could substantially reduce pendency in courts and encourage harmonious dispute resolution,” he said.
Pre-Litigation Disputes Resolved
A significant number of pre-litigation disputes related to banking, finance, and insurance services were also disposed of during the drive. This prevented many matters from reaching the courts, thereby reducing the overall case burden.
