Tragedy struck Rohtas district on Wednesday as two separate road accidents claimed the lives of six individuals, including a woman and four young men. The incidents, which occurred in different police station areas, have once again highlighted the grim reality of road safety in the region.
SUV Hit-and-Run Claims Two Lives in Itamha Bazaar
In the first road accident near PNB Bank in Itamha Bazaar under Nasariganj police station, a speeding SUV ran over two people, resulting in their immediate death. The victims were identified as Asha Devi (42), wife of Virendra Chaudhary from Baradih village, and Santosh Kumar Singh (50), son of the late Awadh Kumar Singh from Kandh Bahuara village.
According to police reports, Asha Devi was on her way to a bank, while Santosh Kumar Singh was returning to his village on a bicycle. The SUV, coming from the market side, reportedly lost control and hit both pedestrians. The driver abandoned the vehicle at the spot and fled. Police have launched a manhunt to apprehend the accused.
Head-On Bike Collision Near Gohi Village Kills Four Youths
In a second, more devastating incident near Gohi village under the Darihat police station area, four young men lost their lives in a violent head-on collision between two motorcycles. The impact was so severe that both bikes caught fire immediately, causing severe burn injuries to the riders.
Senior police officials and local police rushed to the spot upon receiving information, where hundreds of villagers had gathered. All four victims were rushed to the Akorhi Gola Block Hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead. The deceased have been identified as:
- Vikas Tiwari and Sanjay Tiwari, residents of Prayag Bigha in Pani Dalmianagar.
- Anmol Sharma, a resident of Mangitpur village under Nasariganj police station.
- Another youth from Hemradih village.
Preliminary investigation suggests the youths were returning to Dehri-on-Sone after attending a birthday party at a friend's house in Dhananw village when their motorcycle collided with another bike coming from the opposite direction.
District's Alarming Road Accident Toll
These latest fatalities add to a distressing statistic for Rohtas district. Police records reveal that over 350 people have lost their lives in various road accidents in the district so far this year. The back-to-back tragedies have sparked renewed concerns about speeding, reckless driving, and the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic rules and public awareness campaigns to prevent such heartbreaking losses.
